About us

The Turning Points Program (PTPS) is an education and treatment program to help men, women and families stop, and prevent abuse in their lives. Our programs are available to anyone in the area who has a validated, demonstrated need.

The Program was established after a group of concerned agencies saw a need for interventions to be put in place to support positive changes for individuals involved in family violence. These agencies included Spruce Grove, Stony Plain and Parkland County Victim Services, Yellowhead Family Services, RCMP, FCSS, Probation, Alberta Mental Health and their Crisis Team. A study completed in 1992 confirmed that abuse in families does indeed exist in the Parkland County and Spruce Grove area.

Originally the Turning Points Program was under the umbrella of Parkland Healthy Families Association (PHFA). PHFA was formed as a parent association to host projects that assist individuals and families with a mandate to encourage, develop and nurture projects to independence.  Over the years PHFA has nurtured one project to independence.  We are pleased to announce that we have followed in the footsteps of Alberta Parenting for the Future and with the support and guidance of PHFA, in 2004, we formed our own Society and are now able to benefit from charitable donation status.
